PLAINVIEW, TX (KCBD) -

While it was always believed the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens would earn a bid to the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship, it's now a reality.

After finishing as the runner-ups at last weekend's Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, the Flying Queens earned an automatic bid to nationals and don't have to hope for an at-large bid.

Because sixth-ranked Oklahoma City University won both the SAC regular-season and tournament title, beating No. 17 Wayland in the championship game, the team that finished as tournament runner-up – in this case Wayland – also earned an automatic berth.

It's the fourth straight year the Flying Queens (25-6) have qualified for nationals.

A public gathering with the team to reveal when and who Wayland will play in the first round in Billings, Mont., will be held Wednesday evening in the Laney Center, beginning just before the start of the online selection show at 7 p.m.

The selection show to reveal the 32 qualifiers will be broadcast on the NAIA's YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/user/PlayNAIA), where a link will appear approximately five minutes before 7.

Week 3 of Texas Tech's football fall camp is underway and there are still questions on both sides of the football. The air raid attack is to be expected, but Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury likes what he's seen from the Red Raiders backfield so far.
