LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock Native Trey Culver is the ideal student-athlete in the eyes of his head coach Wes Kittley, and now he's won two consecutive Indoor National Championships in the High Jump.

"He is our spiritual leader on our team, and he is a tremendous first class person," Kittley said. "Great heart, wants to do the right thing. You know, he didn't win the Big 12 and he apologized to me. Because he never wants to hurt the team, I can't tell you what he means personally to me, and to this program."

"First off, I always want to give glory to God," Indoor High Jump National Champion Trey Culver said. "Without him I wouldn't be here. I never would have guessed it, that I would be at this point in my life. But, God just keeps blessing me and all I can say is thank you."

It was that mentality, that he brought to practice every day that has set him apart from all the other high jumpers.

"People don't realize that he finished third in district, and third in regionals. He never even won a high school state championship, but he comes here and wins two national championships in college," Coach Kittley said.

Culver is only a junior at Texas Tech, but he says he knows what he must do to make himself a three-time National Champion.

"We will see what God has planned, you know I'll keep working hard. Just stay low, stay humble and just see what happens," Culver said.

Week 3 of Texas Tech's football fall camp is underway and there are still questions on both sides of the football. The air raid attack is to be expected, but Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury likes what he's seen from the Red Raiders backfield so far.
