Elderly Hobbs man dies in crash west of Hobbs

HOBBS, NM (KCBD) -

An elderly man from Hobbs, NM died in a crash just before 6:30 p.m. this morning.

New Mexico State Police Officers were called to mile marker 30 on State Road 529 in New Mexico.

According to troopers, 21-year-old Jace Bennett from Pinon, NM was driving west on 529 when he crossed over the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle driven by 73-year-old Lawrence Coll from Hobbs.

Coll died at the scene. Bennett was taken to Lea Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

No additional information is available at this time. This vehicle crash is still under investigation.

    The shooting suspect, 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis, has been jailed on capital murder charges.
