Bicycle rider in critical condition after crash with vehicle

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A 53-year-old man is in critical condition after colliding with a vehicle as he was riding a bicycle around 5 p.m. on Monday in the 5000 block of Boston Ave.

According to officials with the Lubbock Police Department, the bicyclist was traveling westbound through a parking lot in the 2700 block of 50th Street. The bicyclist exited the parking lot onto Boston Avenue and rode between two vehicles stopped in the northbound lane at a red light. As he passed in between the two vehicles, he struck a car that had just turned south onto Boston Avenue. 

The bicycle rider had injuries to his chest and was last listed in critical condition.

The Lubbock Police Department Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene.
