After confessing to at least 61 home burglaries, a Lubbock teen received his sentence in court Monday.
18-year-old Miguel Tijerina was sentenced to 20 years, which is the maximum punishment for his crime. He confessed to the burglaries, which occurred mainly during 2004, after his arrest in February of this year.
Tijerina hit dozens of houses in the Tech Terrace area. About 40 of those victims took the stand Monday. The victims discussed the fear the burglaries caused in their lives and how violated they felt. Many of the victims told of the items stolen that can not be replaced, like family heirlooms and bowl rings.
Tijerina himself took the stand and admitted he was stealing for drug money. He will be transferred to the Texas Department of Corrections to serve his time.
