LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

On a wet and rainy West Texas night, two little stars shined bright - a cowboy and cowgirl.

You have to be strong to compete in this event, but these 150 kids made it look like fun.

Andres Sanchez was clearly excited to ride the sheep

One by one, kids ages four to seven, all under 55 pounds, got in line for their chance to go ride on the back of a sheep.

"It was because they wanted too, it’s all about the kids," said proud parent Lumpy Ball. "It gets them in an atmosphere that is all about them, and it’s something different. It’s all about the excitement."

Competing in front of a couple hundred fans, the pressure was on.

"I rode for 90, no 89-points," Mutton Bustin’ participant Bradyn Mimms said.

“You are supposed to get an 80 to get into the real ABC Rodeo, and I got an 82,” Sanchez said.

And in the end, even though there were some tears. It was all for fun.

"It doesn’t look like they are having fun now, but up until this moment they were having a blast, and they will be talking about it for years to come," Ball said.

The 75th annual ABC Pro Rodeo runs March 30 through April 1, with shows starting each night at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee performance at 1:30 p.m. on April 1.
