The ABC Pro Rodeo is celebrating their 75th year here in Lubbock. Organizers say this is more than just an event, it's a tradition.

"ABC Rodeo is not a circus that goes down the street next week or next month, we are here, we're here to stay," said Mark Putnam, a 39-year participant at the Rodeo.

For 75 years the ABC Rodeo has been a Lubbock tradition, attracting crowds from across the South Plains for bull riding, barrel racing, roping, and more. And over his 39 years as a member, Mark Putnam says there have been a lot of changes.

"The first Rodeo was in Texas Tech, actually Jones Stadium, at the time, and it was there for many, many years, at the fairgrounds part of the time, until the Coliseum was built," said Putnam.

But, through the changing venues and growing crowds, their mission remains the same.

"Our tradition for 75 years, our commitment to the Boys & Girls Club of Lubbock is what keeps us all going."

When Putnam's grandfather helped start the first rodeo all those years ago, he did it in hopes of giving the kids of Lubbock a place to go, and keep them out of trouble.

"That's how this rodeo came to life"

Now, they've donated more than $1.3 million to the Club, and they don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

"(Do you see another 75 years?) Absolutely, I do. We enjoy putting on this rodeo to benefit the Lubbock Boys & Girls Club, and that's our primary perspective."
