NM State Police: Deputy shot by suspect during homicide investigation

RUIDOSO, NM (KCBD) -

A Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy was shot during an ongoing homicide investigation on Sunday, according to the New Mexico State Police.

The shooting happened at the Lincoln County Medical Center in Ruidoso.

According to troopers, deputies were investigating a homicide and found the possible suspect at the hospital. The suspect, 25-year-old Andrew MaGill from Roswell, NM, became combative and somehow grabbed the deputies firearm. MaGill is accused of shooting the deputy in the shoulder.

The deputy was taken to University Medical Center in El Paso with non-life threatening injuries.

MaGill has been charged by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office with an open count of murder. He is also facing additional charges with the New Mexico State Police including attempted murder of the deputy.
