Officer released from hospital after crash on I-27

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

At approximately 2:15 Wednesday afternoon, Lubbock Police received a call of a traffic accident with injuries in the 9800 block of I-27.

Detective Eric Thoen with the Lubbock Police Department, while on duty, was traveling northbound on I-27 when he came across debris that was creating a traffic hazard.

Officials say he pulled into the left lane in front of the debris to remove the hazard from the roadway. As he was exiting the vehicle, a flatbed pickup truck collided into the back of his work vehicle.

Thoen was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries but was soon released. The driver of the pickup had minor injuries and also transported to the hospital.
