West Texas Salute to Veterans Saturday at Silent Wings Museum

The City of Lubbock Veterans Advisory Committee, Lubbock National Bank and the Silent Wings Museum will be hosting the 3rd Annual West Texas Salute to Veterans on Saturday, April 8, 2017, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Silent Wings Museum, located at 6206 North I-27.

The purpose of this event is to show appreciation to our military service members, veterans, and their families and thank them for what they have done to protect our many freedoms and way of life.

This event is free and will include a Veteran's Resource Fair with approximately 25 vendors, and lunch provided by Lubbock National Bank.  As part of the event, participants will be able to visit the Silent Wings Museum on April 8 at no charge. Activities for children include Bodywork's spider climber, face painting, Dress like a WWII Solder, Bunker Blast and more. There will be door prizes and musical entertainment by Junior Vasquez and Hub City Jazz Orchestra. For individuals with disabilities, there will be golf carts to shuttle participants to and from their vehicles. 8 a.m. - Sun's Up Guns Up Reveille 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk
9:30 a.m. - Veterans Memorial Remembrance
10 a.m.-2 p.m. - Veteran's Resource and Information Fair (Booth Space Available)
10 a.m.-2 p.m. - Entertainment
11 a.m. - Lunch Served Courtesy of Lubbock National Bank
12:15 p.m. - Ceremony and Recognition of Veterans

The Veterans Advisory Committee was established by the Lubbock City Council in 2014. Their mission is to assess current veteran programs and services, identify existing gaps and specific unfulfilled needs, particularly during times of transition, and to prioritize and make recommendations to City Council on various aspects of the Lubbock veteran population to improve the quality of life for all Lubbock citizens.
