LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - To congratulate the Texas Tech Cheer and Pom squads national title, Tech will be hosting a homecoming celebration at 9 p.m. Sunday at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
This is after both teams won national titles Friday during the National Cheerleaders Association and National Dance Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida, according to a Tech news release.
The cheer squad received the first national championship in cheer in school history with a first place in the Co-Ed Cheer category.
The pom squad received a first place spot in the Dance Jazz Division IA category. This after taking second last year by only .14 points.
"We made history (Friday)," Stephanie Rhode, Spirit Program director at Tech, said in the release. "It's not often you have a dance team and the cheer squad win a championship at the same time."
