Lubbock City Council Set To Change Speed Limits Across Town

You may soon see speed limit signs changing across Lubbock.

During the Lubbock City Council meeting Thursday morning, the city traffic department recommended the following changes:

  • setting all South Loop 289 access roads to 50 miles an hour, and
  • increasing the limit by 10 miles an hour on the Southbound I-27 Frontage Road, where it crosses Loop 289.

City Councilman Floyd Price said the changes are a reflection of the rate Lubbock drivers travel.

"We do know that Lubbock has grown leaps and bounds and we have a lot of congestion in some areas and we can shift traffic to another part of our cities and keep Lubbock as safe as possible," said Councilman Price.

The city council must vote on the speed limit changes one more time before they become official.
