LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Firefighters were called out to a structure fire at 1708 18th street just 4:00 Friday morning.

According to the Lieutenant Fire Investigator on the scene, heavy flames were coming out of the west side of the structure when they arrived.

The apartment is a four-unit complex and three of the units were occupied at the time of the fire. Fire crews say the building has 100% smoke damage and is unlivable.

UMC EMS, LPD, and the Lubbock Fire Department are all on the scene. Crews blocked off 18th street from Avenue Q to Avenue S to fight the fire.

The Red Cross is assisting the three families.

We will continue to update this story as we get more information.
