LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Battling back from deficits all night, the 4th ranked Red Raiders couldn’t hold off Oklahoma State, falling 12-10 in front of the 6th largest sold out crowd of the season, at Rip Griffin Park Friday night.

4,432 people saw a back and forth game that saw the Red Raiders make two impressive comebacks, but they couldn’t make a third.

Texas Tech fell behind 3-0 and Erickson Lanning was done after an inning allowing 3 runs on 2 hits. The Red Raiders chipped away to tie it at 3.

However, in the 6th, the Cowboys scored 6 to go up 9-3. Again, Tech chipped away.

A 2-run homer from John McMillion made it 9-5 and Tanner Gardner’s RBI tied the game at 9 as the Red Raiders answered with 6 of their own in the bottom half of the 6th.

Oklahoma State retook the lead again in the 8th going up 10-9.  They added two more in the 9th.  Josh Jung hit a solo homer in the bottom of the 9th.

Texas Tech falls to 32-9 overall and 8-5 in Big 12 play.

Texas Tech and Oklahoma State play game 2 of the series Saturday at 2pm at Rip Griffin Park.
