People returning to businesses, homes after gas line hit near 19th & Ave. Q

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Emergency crews were on the scene and houses and businesses were evacuated near 19th Street and Ave. Q after a gas line was hit. The gas line was hit around 12 p.m.

The houses on Ave. R between 17th Street and 19th Street were evacuated. Discount Tire on Ave. Q was also evacuated.

Atmos was called to the scene and is still working to cap the broken line. The gas has been shut off and the fire department has cleared the scene.

LISD officials released a statement:

About 12:20 today, Lubbock ISD Police advised us of a gas leak at 18th & Ave. R., caused when a construction crew accidentally hit a gas line. Students at Lubbock High are limiting outdoor activity as are employees of Central Office. Everyone has been asked to avoid the area around 18th & Ave. R. There was no evacuation at either building.
