PLAINVIEW, TX (KCBD) -

The city of Plainview is moving forward with plans to demolish a store destroyed by fire more than a year ago.

Nina's Gift Shop was gutted by an early morning fire, just days before Christmas, in December 2015. It has sat vacant with barricades around the building since then. Officials believe the fire was caused by faulty wiring.

On Tuesday the Plainview council voted unanimously to knock down the building that stands between other businesses on the Hale County Courthouse Square.

The Plainview Herald reports the owners of the building have twice been cited for code violations stemming from the fire.

The owners of the building have six weeks to appeal the decision before any demolition can begin.
