TURKEY, TX (KCBD) -

Take me back to Turkey - it's time for the 46th annual Bob Wills Day celebration.

Western swing legend Wills, a native of the Hall County town of Turkey, has been celebrated annually by his hometown since 1971. The annual spring event includes a number of dances, a parade, an arts and crafts show and wraps up with a dance featuring the South Plains College western swing band and Jody Nix and the Outsiders on Saturday evening.

The 2017 event will see the return of several of Wills' bandmates from the Texas Playboys, including steel guitar pioneer Bobby Koefer, vocalist Leon Rausch and guitarist Joe Settlemire.

An "Old Fiddler's Contest" will also be held throughout the day Saturday. An afternoon lawn mower race will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The majority of the events at Bob Wills Day are free and open to the public, including an afternoon concert featuring a number of Wills-inspired bands and his former bandmates.  And while it may take a few dollars to punch your dance card for Thursday at $15, Friday and Saturday nights won't cost too much more to "Stay A Little Longer" by buying tickets for $20.

For more information, you can call the Bob Wills Museum at (806) 423-1253 or the City of Turkey at (806) 423-1033.
