Health inspectors checked out the cleanliness of about two dozens Lubbock eateries, and the only one that landed on the Food for Thought list landed at the bottom.

Hong Kong at 4845 50th had 14 critical violations.

  • Chicken and shrimp were above the safe cold temperature of 41 degrees.
  • Jalapenos and bell peppers were molded.
  • Raw beef was stored over sauces and corn. Uncovered ice cream cones were on the counter.
  • Pain reliever spray was next to gloves.
  • A bungee cord was used to close the door of the walk-in cooler. Gaskets were damaged on the cooler.
  • There were cardboard boxes on the floor throughout the kitchen.
  • There was a personal drink in the reach-in cooler.
  • The cooler was also leaking.
  • Utensils were not stored properly.
  • The floor under the grill was dirty. And, the floor and walls of the walk-in cooler were dirty.
  • Light covers were dirty.
  • Personal items were stored in the kitchen.
  • There were no papers towels in the employee's restroom.
  • The inspector notes, due to the number and the nature of the violations management did not demonstrate proper food safety knowledge.

According to the report, most of the violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.
