LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Our cameras were there to capture a top secret surprise at a Lubbock elementary school: A father deployed in the U.S. military, had the chance to surprise two of his unsuspecting children.

Students piled into the gym at Wheelock Elementary School, expecting the usual run-through for a school program.

Teachers rewarded the students with a game of "Simon Says," for a job well done, before it was time to head back to class.

The special participants were Wheelock Elementary students and siblings, Diamond and Jaevoni McKee.

They had no idea would come next, the best surprise they could imagine.

Their father, Joshua McKee, was home from serving in Iraq with the United States Army for the last year.

The plan was organized by his wife, Beatrize McKee, who created something special for every student and teacher to experience.

McKee says though the secret was hard to keep, it was a moment he'll never forget.

"That probably during the whole deployment was the hardest thing, was being away from them...it's like meeting my kids again for the first time. Like it's playing over and over again," McKee said.

Now their dad is home, long before they ever thought he would be.

The tears and smiles say it all.

"I was happy...I didn't know he was coming," Diamond McKee said.

"That's the reason why I do what I do, is because of them," McKee said.
