LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

A firefighter with Livingston Parish District #5 rescued a duckling from a storm drain Thursday afternoon.

According to the fire department's Facebook page, the firefighter, Michael Arthur, rescued the duck just after 4 p.m. after some kids chased it into a storm drain at the Parc at Denham Springs Apartments off Hwy. 16. The firefighters were responding to a separate 911 call on the property when they saw some residents trying to save the baby duck.

Residents say Arthur told them he would help get the duck after they finished with their original call. The residents tried to rescue the duckling for about an hour when Arthur decided to get in the drain to make the rescue. Residents say the whole ordeal took about two hours, with them trying everything they could think to get the duck out, including luring it with food and trying to make duck noises.

Finally, Arthur was able to rescue the duck using a pool net from the apartment complex after submerging himself up to his chest in the storm drain. The duckling was unharmed in the incident.
