State lawmakers now have an education reform plan that lowers school property taxes, but they still don't know how to pay for it.
Overnight, the Texas House approved its version of the school finance plan. It would give school districts 3% more money in 2006. Teachers would get a raise and they'd begin using digital technology instead of textbooks. The biggest change is all classes would start the day after Labor Day.
The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
