New Details Emerge in Apparent Dispute that Ended in a Murder/Suicide

A divorce may be the reason a wife and husband are dead. It started with a drive to Ralls around one o'clock a.m. on Tuesday, July 5th, and ended with a gunshot in Lubbock.

Thirty-nine year-old Sharon Wade and her 12-year-old daughter Jennifer Ellison were driving to Ralls to pick up Wade's other daughter. Wade noticed her husband, Gerald Wade following her car and called her son for help. Wade's son, 19-year-old Mark Ellison arrived in a separate vehicle, two miles west of Ralls. Mark and Gerald reportedly argued and that's when troopers say Gerald stabbed his step-son. Sharon Wade tried to intervene and Gerald stabbed her to death.

Jennifer was able to escape the scene while troopers alerted authorities to search for Gerald Wade and his Dodge truck. DPS troopers along with Lubbock and Crosby County authorities were able to locate Wade and end the search in the Kohl's parking lot. They used the PA system to order Wade out of the vehicle with his hands up. Instead they heard a gun shot and found Wade dead inside his truck.

Until that point, the question has been why and family members gave NewsChannel 11 a possible motive. Family members say Sharon wanted a divorce from Gerald, they can't imagine what else could've caused such a dramatic scene.

Sharon and Gerald lived in a mobile home neighborhood just west of Lubbock, however, family members say Gerald was told to leave a week ago. A neighbor, who is also one of Sharon's distant relatives, tells NewsChannel 11 the couple had a troubled history. However, he's known Sharon for years and says her children always came first.

Scott Brazil said, "She was a good mother. I'm not going to take that away from Sharon. She was an excellent mother and always out to get the most she could for her kids."

Mark Ellison was in good condition at Covenant Medical Center as of Tuesday evening. Jennifer Ellison was treated and released to family members.

The Texas Rangers have taken over the crime scene. They found both a knife and rifle inside Gerald Wade's truck.

NewsChannel 11 also learned Gerald Wade was arrested for theft and a DWI, however no evidence of domestic violence exists.
