While most are taking cover from the storm, some Lubbockites are heading into it's direct path.
Nine students with the Texas Tech Wind and Science Engineering Program left for Louisiana Friday morning. The students are taking a thirty-foot tower to collect wind data.
"The more we learn about hurricanes and the windfields associated with them, the better job we can do with forecasting and protecting the public," said John Schroder, Assistant Professor of Atmospheric Science.
Texas Tech has been tracking hurricane data from the eye of the storm since 1998.
