The power is back on but Friday morning thousands lost power when lightening struck an LP&L substation.
Early Friday morning thunderstorms brought heavy rain and frequent lightening. Just after 7 a.m., lightening hit the Holley Substation at 82nd and Avenue P, setting off a chain reaction that caused a system wide power outage. Nearly 200 traffic lights were out, forcing the Lubbock Police Department to call in all its officers, even detectives to direct traffic. Power was restored within the hour.
