The number of prescription drug abusers jumped seven times faster than the United States population in the last decade. That's according to a report from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse.
The study suggests the problem has reached "epidemic" levels, with more than 15-million people admitting to abusing prescription drugs. With nearly 2.5 million of those being teens.
Researchers say parents should know that many of those young people are simply taking prescription drugs right out of the medicine cabinets at home. Another source is the hundreds of Web sites that sell controlled drugs without a prescription.
