If you get invited to a chicken pox party...say no.
That's the advice from the Texas Medical Association which says some parents look for a chance to expose their kids at a convenient time to be down with the illness, but the TMA says today we know that for some children, chicken pox is not just a childhood nuisance. The rash it brings can be devastating not to mention other life-threatening complications that can be triggered by the disease.
So, this reminder tonight from the TMA rather than a chicken pox party, an immunization party is a much smarter idea. That vaccine is required before school starts anyway, and it is much safer than exposure to the virus.
