Police Re-open Highway After Morning Chemical Leak

Lubbock Police saw a gas vapor cloud heading across Highway 62-82 at 4:24am.  They investigated and found a sign that said H2S, a very toxic gas, could be present.  Hazmat and Lubbock fire responded and tested the cloud.  The leak turned out to be Nitrogen.  Nitrogen can be toxic, but not in the situation it was in this morning.  No one was injured, and the Nitrogen will naturally evaporate without any environmental harm.
Highway 62-82 was re-opened about 7:15 this morning after being closed East and Westbound for two hours.
