The Edison Awards announced its 2017 Best New Product Awards winners earlier this year. The ONE Smart Piano was among this year’s recipients. Receiving an Edison Award is a long-running symbol of business innovation and considered the highest honor available for companies in the fields of new product and service development, marketing, human-centered design and innovation.

Annual winners are selected from among more than 7,000 nominees in various categories, including Health and Wellness, Energy and Sustainability and Applied Technology with a range of sub-categories in each division. Gold, silver and bronze seals are awarded. The ONE Smart Piano was granted a silver award in the Living, Working and Learning category’s Talent Development sub-category for its capacity to reduce the amount of time required to Learn piano as well as the potential long-term cost involved in traditional lessons.

Nominees are assessed by a panel of judges consisting of past award winners, academics, top business executives and leaders in the fields of product development, design, engineering and science as well as the medical industry. Winners are chosen in the tradition of the Awards’ namesake, Thomas Alva Edison, due to their ingenuity and potential to change the world in a positive manner.

“We’re honored to be among this year’s recipients,” said a spokesperson for The ONE Smart Piano in regard to the accolade, “and look forward to continuing to change lives through the power of music. As a team, we knew the time to finally revolutionize the process of music education was long overdue. Our smart piano is the result of a great deal of thought, planning and collaboration, and we’re proud to offer rising musicians of all ages an alternative to the norm.”

The ONE Smart Piano was initially introduced in 2015 in response to common issues surrounding conventional Piano Lessons. As the only full-size upright piano on the market offering digital technology and light-guided learning, the product has been met with considerable acclaim from critics and aspiring musicians alike. More than 1,200 units were sold during the company’s original 2015 crowdfunding campaign. Since then, the company has gone global with its full-size upright and portable Piano Keyboard models.

This year’s Edison Awards Program was held on April 20 at the New York Academy of Sciences in New York City where The ONE and other finalists were invited to attend the annual Innovators’ Forum and Showcase as well as the awards ceremony.
