Speed limits across town are changing.
Thursday, the Lubbock City Council voted to increase the speed limit to 50 miles an hour on the West Loop 289 access road between Slide and the Marsha Sharp Freeway. Fifty is also the limit on the Marsha Sharp frontage roads between Chicago and Milwaukee.
The city decided to lower the speed limit to 20 miles an hour in front of Harwell Elementary on Avenue D between 40th and 42nd Streets.
These changes won't take effect for a couple of weeks.
