LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Mayor Dan Pope kicked off the Mayor's Fitness Council initiative during a news conference on Wednesday, September 6.
The Mayor's Fitness Council aims to bring together key community stakeholders and city leaders, as well as local individuals and youth, organizations, agencies, churches, and businesses that share the vision of a healthier community. The group will focus on two primary goals: endorsement of local fitness and wellness events that support the Fitness Council's mission and the establishment of a signature event to promote and unify Lubbock's health and wellness organizations.
The Fitness Council initiative is a collaborative effort between the City of Lubbock and Healthy Lubbock, a program of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Garrison Institute on Aging. It includes members from Texas Tech University, local hospitals, schools, health organizations and registered dietitians.
