Dry conditions here on the South Plains are responsible for a number of grassfires Monday.
Firefighters remained on the scene of a blaze at County Road 5300 and I-27 for more than three hours. It broke around one o'clock Monday afternoon. Several homes were threatened, but thanks to the wind, the fire was shifted in a new direction.
Firefighters from Shallowater, New Deal and Abernathy all helped to extinguish the blaze.
