As many as 28,000 pacemakers worldwide are under recall. Guidant Corporation reports a seal inside the pacemakers can leak which could cause the devices to malfunction and cause the heart to speed up or slow down too much.

Pacemakers send electrical pulses to the heart to regulate its rhythm. Guidant says already, they've been told of 69 cases in which the pacemakers have failed because of the leak. If patients know their pacemakers' model and serial number, they can see if it's under recall by (clicking here).

Also, people who've experienced problems with their pacemakers can report problems to(fda.gov/medwatch).
