Power Outage Keeps South Lubbock Residents From Watching Discovery Launch

Americans are back in space for the first time since the Columbia tragedy, but hundreds of South Lubbock residents missed the launch.

Electricity went out in Southwest Lubbock at 9:24 Tuesday morning, seven minutes before the launch. LP&L customers living south of 87th Street between Indiana and Slide were affected. A squirrel apparently crossed the wires and tripped the power.

Power was restored approximately 20 minutes later.
