Lubbock City Council members will not allow a sexually oriented business to expand its building.
The owners of Player's Gentleman's Club asked the city to sell them the right of way behind the club. They say they would use the space to add on to their building. Council members voted against it 4 to 3. "It sends the wrong message to the citizens of Lubbock to promote sexually oriented business. Again this particular business operates under a grandfather clause because it was in existance before our ordinance was passed years ago," says City Councilman Tom Martin.
Sexually oriented businesses are no longer allowed in the city limits. Those who voted for the alley closure said they viewed Players as they would any other piece of property.
