Back to school clothes shopping could mean big savings this weekend. The tax free holiday starts Friday at 12:01 a.m. Thursday morning retailers began preparing for the crowds. Employees at Wal-Mart were busy stocking shelves for the tax free weekend all morning.
Just a reminder, most clothing and shoes under $100 will be tax exempt. There are a few exceptions. Backpacks and school supplies will not be tax free. The manager at Wal-Mart tells NewsChannel 11 they are expecting double the amount of people they usually have on a weekend.
Experts say Texans will save about $47 million. Here in Lubbock many stores including the mall will open early on Friday.
If you want to avoid the long lines, Wal-Mart offers a layaway plan. Many other stores are also offering that option.
