LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Police say 22-year-old Rosenda Rey is now in custody after barricading herself in a bathroom for two hours at the Texas Health and Human Services Offices at 1700 block of Parkway Dr. on Tuesday morning.
Police got the first call around 11:30 a.m., a report of a shot fired and a woman barricaded in the bathroom with a gun.
Multiple SWAT and patrol officers, negotiators, Lubbock Fire Rescue tactical medics, and EMS were called to the scene at the Mackenzie Village Shopping Center.
The offices were evacuated and the parking lot of the shopping center was closed to the public. Police say the building to the right was already empty and the building to the left was far enough back that those employees were not in danger.
Employees say they saw the woman go into the bathroom with a gun and they heard a loud pop. Police found a CO2 gun in the bathroom. Right now it is unclear if she actually fired the gun.
Negotiators were able to make contact with the woman over the course of two hours and she did come out peacefully. Police say Rey had two outstanding warrants and has been charged with terroristic threat, a third-degree felony.
No injuries were reported, and once officers cleared the scene the Texas Department of Health and Human Services was able to resume business. Investigators are still trying to determine why the woman was in the building and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials with LISD say they have a police presence at the school nearby but the school was not on lockdown. Outdoor activities were suspended until the situation was resolved. School officials wanted to remind people the doors of the school are always locked.
