Lubbock County Commissioners Face $2.6 Million Deficit

County Commissioners will fly to Austin Wednesday to learn how new laws and mandates will effect their budget.

Right now, the county is facing a possible $2.6 million deficit. That's because the county must pay $1 million for electronic voting machines required by federal mandates.

The county is also dealing with increased costs for indigent care. In addition, this will be the first year, property taxes will freeze for senior citizens. So that's more revenue the county can no longer count on.
