LPD identifies driver who died following collision with fire truck

Lubbock Police officers were called to 50th and Utica, at 7:03 p.m., Saturday Dec. 16, by Lubbock Fire Rescue following a crash involving one of Lubbock Fire Rescue’s fire trucks.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim, 68-year-old Johnnie Martin, with serious injuries. Martin was transported by ambulance to Covenant Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Through investigation, officers were able to determine the fire truck was pulling out of the station with lights and sirens to respond to a separate call, when the vehicle Martin was driving collided with the back end of the fire truck.

Accident Investigators are working to determine what caused the crash.
