MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Faulkner Eagles will soon begin the process of finding a new head football coach after Monday's resignation by Charlie Boren.

Boren spent six years with the program, including four as the head coach, and was 29-13 with winning seasons all four years.

“I have loved every minute of my time at Faulkner,” Boren said, “and want to thank Dr. Billy Hilyer for the confidence he had in me to lead this program. The best thing about this university is the people; the administration, the faculty and most importantly, the players and coaches that I’ve had the opportunity to work with. We’ve won a lot of football games, but more importantly, we have had the opportunity to have a positive impact on those we have coached.”

During Boren's first season at the helm, the team made it to the playoffs for just the second time in its history. This year, Faulkner was 7-3 with each loss coming at the hands of nationally-ranked opponents.

“I really miss mentoring the younger players,” he said. “At my core I still consider myself a high school coach. As much as I’ve valued working with these college players, I enjoyed coaching athletes at the high school level and helping guide them earlier in their lives and careers.”

“Charlie is a wonderful Christian man and has been a valuable leader for the football program,” said Faulkner athletic director Hal Wynn. “He’s engaged with the players both on and off the field and the team’s involvement with Davis Elementary is a fine example of that. We appreciate the great job he did while here and we wish him all the best in this new path he’s perusing.”

Faulkner says it will begin interviewing for Boren's replacement after the beginning of the new year.
