The Texas Tech TechAlert system will now have a more expansive system that will allow notification to people that are not directly connected the university.
Tech made this announcement via a news release on Thursday, writing the expansion will include a MyConnect portal that will allow additional people who are not Tech students, faculty or staff to be connect to the system. This will mainly include contract employees, those in leased spaces and others.
This new portal is offered through Blackboard Connect, the platform that powers TechAlert, and will allow identified community members to manage phone, text numbers and email addresses to receive emergency alerts from the university.
"The safety of our campus is of the utmost importance, and it is crucial that we are able to communicate with all members of the campus community," President Lawrence Schovanec said in the release. "The expansion of TechAlert will allow us to keep more people informed with relevant, timely information during an emergency."
