Texas Tech board of regents are set to reveal a new university seal Friday. NewsChannel 11 first told you of the regents plan for change back in May. The idea was quickly followed by controversy. Tech alumni did not want to remove the cotton bolls. Texas Tech has since decided to enhance the seal but symbols will not be removed.
Senior Vice Chancellor Richard Butler says, "We appreciate the pride of our alums, so the seal will stay as is and will be used as it traditionally has been. The 'Double T' will also stay the same. Then the third piece will be a single symbol of our academic excellence if you will, and there is a consideration to adopt a single symbol as well."
Tech wants to add a symbol to acknowledge academic excellence.
