JERUSALEM (CNN) - A new high-speed rail station in the old city of Jerusalem is to be named after U.S. President Donald Trump. Israel's transport minister tells CNN that the move honors Trump's decision earlier this month to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

It's a move rejected by the majority of the members of the United Nations.

In 1995, the U.S. House and Senate overwhelmingly passed the “Jerusalem Embassy Act” recognizing the city as Israel’s capital, and calling for the U.S. embassy to be moved to Jerusalem. The act was signed into law by President Bill Clinton.

The measure did include a waiver that allowed the president to postpone carrying out the measure if “such suspension is necessary to protect the national security interests of the United States.” Presidents since that time have done so until Trump.

Trains at the station, which will be built inside the walls of the Old City, will drop off passengers near the Dung Gate, which leads straight to the Western Wall, the holiest site at which Jews can pray, CNN reported.

Other cities in Israel are considering naming streets and parks after the president.
