It's so cold: Let the jokes begin

(RNN) – There’s cold and then there’s the mind-numbing, freeze-your-soul kind of cold.

No one like’s it, but sometimes all you can do is joke about it. And that’s what Americans are doing as record cold temperatures spread from the Midwest to the Deep South.

The National Weather Service said it was the coldest New Year's Day on record in Chicago with a high of 1 degree. That’s the high, not the low.

But records are falling a lot of other places too.

So, with all the cold temps, let's take a look at the ice-box humor filling social media:

You know it’s cold when Alaska is an option for warming up.

You know it’s cold when people in the Sunshine state get in on the act.

You know it’s cold when a famous children’s author gets in on the frigid humor.

You know it’s cold when folks find a way to work in a political jab.

And you really know it’s cold when your four-legged friend gets in on the act.
