LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A Lubbock man has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for a stabbing that happened on June 27, 2016 at the restaurant I Love Pho at 4th and Slide Road.

Police say employees at I Love Pho were celebrating one year of being open after being closed for the evening. Investigators say that's when now 44-year-old Candelario Ortiz Jr. walked into the business and began arguing with his girlfriend who was already there.

As the argument escalated, a man in his 20's and a man in his 50's stepped in to protect the woman and asked Ortiz to leave.

Ortiz pulled out a knife and began to struggle with one of the men. The other man grabbed a knife in defense and stabbed Ortiz.

Ortiz attempted to leave the restaurant but collapsed outside the business near his vehicle.

Ortiz was taken to UMC by EMS with life-threatening injuries, then admitted and released from the hospital. He was placed in jail in July 2016.

Today he was sentenced to 365 days in jail. He will be given credit for time served.
