LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball’s Michael Davis has been named Big 12 Player of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.

It’s the first honor for the hometown Lubbock native this season and the third in his Texas Tech career. He won the award in April 11, 2016, and April 17, 2017, as a sophomore and junior, respectively. He is the third weekly winner of the year for Tech, as sophomore infielder Josh Jung & freshman infielder Gabe Holt picked up Player & Newcomer of the Week accolades after the opening weekend of the season.

Davis combined with three other Red Raiders to lead the league in hits last week with 10, which included a double and two homers. He finished the week with four multi-hit performances, including a three-hit bid in the series finale against No. 11 South Alabama on Sunday.

In that contest, Davis came a triple shy of the cycle, throwing down a double in his first at-bat, then hit a two-run homer later in the game, while scoring three runs. Overall, Davis topped conference hitters last week in hits, hits per game, runs, runs per game, RBI and total bases, helping the Red Raiders to a four-game sweep of the Jaguars, as well as road wins over UTSA & UTRGV.

The Red Raiders return to action on Wednesday, March 7, against New Mexico at 1 p.m. at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
