LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Monday was the final day to add a furry friend to your family at no cost during the Lubbock Animal Shelter's free adoption event.
It normally costs $60 to adopt a cat or dog, but this event waived all fees which included a spay or neuter, the first set of shots, a microchip and a registration tag.
Overall, 73 animals have been adopted, 24 animals have been returned to their owners, and 12 animals have been moved to foster care or a rescue.
"Everyone's getting the opportunity to get a new pet, a new family member," Kia Riemath, assistant director of LAS, said. "They're coming out, taking a look, and it really warms our heart to see all these animals moving out through the door."
Saturday was the animal shelter's busiest day. The shelter opened at noon and people were even lining up by 9 am.
"It's been amazing and we're grateful," Riemath said. "Saturday we actually ran out of animals to adopt out."
"We want to move into a more positive direction where we have more animals out the door," Riemath said. "We don't like putting animals down, we absolutely don't, this is not fun for anyone."
The Lubbock Animal Shelter's next event will be March 19-23 for half priced adoptions.
