LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - This evening an 11-year-old from Stewart Elementary School in Lubbock was given an experience he'll never forget. Andrew Martinez, who was diagnosed with Leukemia last May, signed his letter of intent to play for the Lubbock Christian Chaps baseball team.

Andrew, a pitcher himself, wants to be like his idol - Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw. LCU pitcher Daniel Crooks tells KCBD that Andrew had already been giving them pointers.

"We talked to Andrew. We were actually picking his brain to see if he could help a few of the guys on our curveballs. He gave us some tips so hopefully we'll put that to use next weekend."

We asked Crooks what his biggest takeaway from this moment would be: "God's glory and His goodness. Through the ups and downs of life, He's always good. We're going to love Andrew through it just as God loves us through the midst of our troubles."
