LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The Lubbock Mayor's Fitness Council's Inaugural Mayor's Marathon will be April 22. This week the marathon was certified to be a Boston Marathon qualifier.

The race includes a 5k, Half, Relay, and Full Marathon. Register now here.

Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay registration close at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 21. 5K registration closes at 6 a.m. on Sunday, April 22.

All races are scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. on April 22. Strollers are permitted for the 5K. Pets are not allowed.

The course takes place on the inside lanes of the outermost loop. This means all races get to experience the overpasses and an uninterrupted race.

"It'll just be up and down up on the overpasses for 26 miles so its absolutely very unique," Lubbock Mayor's Fitness Council Member Jonathan Botros said, "it'll be physically challenging, but it'll also be mentally challenging just every time you come down an overpass knowing you got another one coming up."

Organizers hope this event will bring the community together.

"We hope people in businesses and communities all across Lubbock are getting together to train for this," Botros said, "and going outside more and making sure fitness is a top priority in their lives."

There will be food trucks, live music, inflatables, and much more on race day for everyone who comes out.
