WOLFFORTH, TX (KCBD) - Residents in Wolfforth have begun receiving suspicious text messages that are telling them they owe money to the city for utilities.

However, the city has released a notice saying this type of text message system is a phone scam. It took to Facebook on Friday to make its residents aware of the scam, pleading for them not to take any direction from the text message.

"Do not pay the money the message says you owe. The City does not have this type of notification system," officials wrote on the City of Wolfforth, Facebook page.

The message comes across with a blue box that has a white G in the notification. The best advice is to not respond to this message if one receives it.

For those with any questions, they are welcome to go to the city offices located at 302 Main St. or to call them at 806-855-4120 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
