Playing in the Big 12 Championships Semifinals for the first time since 2005, the 2nd ranked Red Raiders lost to 3rd seeded West Virginia 66-63 Friday night.
Texas Tech trailed 56-48 with 6 minutes to go, but went on an 9-0 run to take a 57-56 lead with 4:15 to play, but West Virginia retook the lead late.
Down 4 in the final minute, Keenan Evans made a big hoop and was fouled, but the 85 percent FT shooter missed the freebie. Evans was a surprising 3 of 8 at the free throw line. He missed a go-ahead 3 with less than 10 seconds to go. He finished with 13 points.
Niem Stevenson missed a game-tying 3 at the buzzer.
Texas Tech was 11-21 from the free throw line.
Jarrett Culver led the way with 16 points for the Red Raiders
Texas Tech falls to 24-9 and now they await their travel plans for the NCAA Tournament that they will learn on Selection Sunday.
